Aromatherapy is a complementary therapy that uses the highly concentrated essential oils extracted from plants to enhance physical and emotional wellbeing. When inhaled or applied topically to the skin they are absorbed into the body enabling their medicinal properties to take effect.

The chemical constituents in essential oils can elicit a pharmacological action similar to that of a traditional drug or medicine that you might get from your doctor or a pharmacy. This is why not all essential oils are safe to use in pregnancy and even those that are, are not safe for everyone to use. If you intend to use essential oils in pregnancy you should seek advice from someone qualified in essential oil use / aromatherapy specific to maternity and also inform your main maternity care provider.

At Pregnancy Therapies you can rest assured that as an Independent Midwife and Specialist Midwife Therapist I have completed maternity specific training in Aromatherapy in addition to my BSc Midwifery Degree in order to be able to safely offer you aromatherapy treatments for relaxation, to ease a range of pregnancy symptoms, discomforts, aches and pains, to prepare your body for labour and avoid medical induction of labour or to aid postnatal recovery.
